Hello, From what I have seen, the united airlines preferred seats provided added comfort without the premium prices associated with first-class or business-class seats. As these seats were situated at the front of the economy section, this expedited the process of boarding and deplaning. The extra legroom and the calm atmosphere in that section were to my liking. It was easy to book preferred seating when checking in. It seemed like a minor improvement that had a significant impact on my journey.
